A New Plan for a Better Skatepark
Rocker Memorial Skatepark (RMSP) is working with the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District (TDRPD) to renovate, modernize, and potentially expand the existing Truckee Skatepark at Truckee River Regional Park.
After years of pursuing a much larger expansion project, we’re taking a more achievable approach: starting with a realistic budget and developing a design that fits within the resources we can secure.
Our goal is to deliver meaningful improvements for approximately $900,000 or less, including design and construction.
What Are We Planning?
Preliminary renovation concepts are now being developed and shared with TDRPD. They explore opportunities for substantially more usable skateable terrain, improved flow, updated features, better accessibility, and a skatepark that serves beginners and experienced skaters alike.
We’re also evaluating ways to reuse portions of the existing infrastructure to help reduce construction costs.
These concepts are preliminary and have not been approved for construction. The final design and scope will depend on site constraints, engineering, community input, available funding, and required approvals.
When Will Construction Begin?
A construction start date has not yet been established.
We’re currently working toward the next phase of planning, which includes:
- Reviewing the preliminary concept with TDRPD
- Confirming site boundaries and design parameters
- Gathering community feedback, with a public input meeting targeted for early December 2026
- Refining the design and confirming construction costs
- Securing remaining funding and required approvals
Town of Truckee planning staff have indicated that the renovation may qualify for a more straightforward permitting process than the original expansion, depending on the final scope.
Significant funding resources have already been identified, but additional contributions and potential in-kind construction support are still needed.
